歌曲《Vincent》英文评论
In the Spring of 1984, I was in college when he came to give a concert at our school. None of my friends wanted to go because they felt he was a bit passé by then. So, I went alone and sat about 20 feet away from him. This song was so powerful, so clear and so perfect, I felt sorry for my friends for having been so closed minded. These lyrics are about as poetic as anything put on paper. Thank you for providing me with a memory from my youth which has lasted over 33 years and still touches me deeply. Don McLean wrote “Vincent,” also known as “Starry, Starry Night,” in the fall of 1970, while he was working for the Berkshire School District. McLean wrote “Vincent” in his apartment full of antiques. The inspiration came to him one morning while he was sitting on the veranda looking at a book about Vincent Van Gogh. As he studied a print of Van Gogh’s painting “Starry Night,” he realized that a song could be written about the artist through the painting. I have been thru difficult times in life. From family and friends passing to health concerns that put me in pain every day, for the last 19 years and I have never cried out. When I hear this one song, every stroke of each guitar string, every note sung in that soft and compassionate voice, breaks down every barrier that I, in vain, built, to keep the world from seeing me cry. By the end of this song, I am sobbing in tears, even at 50, for all that has been lost. This one song. Thank you.
