Cut to the chase: to focus on what is important; to abandon the preliminaries(准备工作) and deal with the major points. If you cut to the chase, you start talking about or dealing with what is really important, instead of less important things. As in Come on, cut to the chase already—what exactly are you trying to ask me?


中文释义:你有没有发现,总有一些人讲话不讲重点、讲了半天你什么信息都没get到。这时候你可以直接一点,要求他只谈重点:We don't have a lot of time, please cut to the chase.(我们时间不多,请直截了当谈重点。)Cut to the chase属于职场术语,通常用来要求对方跳过不重要的部分直接进入正题,或者直接跳到结尾。在职场上,尊重他人的时间才是最尊重人的事情。当然,你还可以这么说:Give us the short version (大概介绍)或者Skip to the bottom line (直接跳到结果)。
