Cut out to/for: To be well-suited for a certain position or role. Often used in negative constructions; destined to be something or a particular type of person. As in We weren't cut out to be laborers or He did his best, but he just wasn't cut out for farming.


中文释义:Cut out for/to be是指适合……,可以是某种工作、某些任务、职业、角色等。要是一个人对你说: You are cut out for that job.他的意思就是,他认为你非常适合做那个工作,你有能力把工作做得非常出色,也就是中国人常说的某某人生来是做那个工作的材料。例句:He's cut out for playing cards because he's got an extraordinary memory .(他天生就是块打牌的料,因为他具备超常的记忆力。)
